Project:Moments Intercepted

"Kate MacDonald"

Occupation: Artist
Location: Vancouver, BC
Website: http://www.katemacdonald.30art.com

Why does this project interest me?
Painter, death penalty activist, sommelier & random troublemaker, Kate has exhibited her work internationally. Her cityscapes have most recently been exhibited in Vancouver, BC and her digital collages are regularly featured in Vancouver, Los Angeles, and London galleries. Her continuing series of Last Meal paintings, which she considers her most important work, have been shown throughout Texas, as well as being exhibited in California, Conneticut, Ohio, and Vancouver.
Kate paints with tufted sticks, throws small stones, lives the life of a pirate queen, and listens to too much punk rock. She is intrigued by the random nature of the (re)collection process and excited to take part in this Labspace Studio project; being compelled to create and experience the present by being unable to prepare for unknown challenges can only open undiscovered veins in her own artistic practice. Click here to view Kate’s website or follow her on twitter.

Last Meal: John R Thompson

As part of a continuing series I began in 2006, I regularly paint the Last Meals of the executed. As part of the process, I actually prepare and consume the meal before creating the composition from photographs of the leftovers.

John R Thompson’s last meal was a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

The San Antonio 166th District Court judge, Peter Curry, who had originally signed Thompson’s death warrant told reporters that the prisoner had changed while in prison and didn’t deserve to die.

Wordle: The Subject Steve

I don’t know Steve, but I follow him on Twitter. This Wordle-generated word cloud was done from the RSS feed of his blog. It is more accurate than if I had him sit for a painting.
